How to use our Gold Exchange

“The team were all super helpful and I was able to clear out unloved gold and silver; odd earrings, broken chains, unworn bracelets and rings. I now have a beautiful new pendant that I wear everyday whilst knowing that my old jewellery has a new lease of life.”

Begin Recycling with the Gold Exchange

How to use our Gold Exchange?

First, check the type and weight of your precious metal. The type of metal can be determined by its hallmark (use our helpful guide to reading hallmarks here), and weight can be easily measured using kitchen scales.

Next, enter these details into the indicative calculator below for an estimate of your metal’s value. The prices change daily and are set by the London Bullion Market, though we offer 7.5% above market value to incentivise recycling.

Market Value

£of LYLIE credit

The estimation is based on the metal weight you provided. The final value will be determined by the in-person appraisal.

If you would like to go ahead with your exchange, please complete the form below to let us know if you would prefer to be sent a reusable pouch with a prepaid label enclosed for posting your metals or a PDF of the prepaid envelop via email, which can be printed and attached to packaging you have at home.

Our pouches and labels are guaranteed for next day delivery and are insured up to a value of £2,500. Due to your parcels value, please note that it will need to be dropped in at a post office.

Please scan the QR code included in the pouch or use the link on the email to read our simple guide to packaging your metals. This includes taking a picture of the metal you wish to exchange, which helps us keep an accurate record of the metals we expect to arrive at the studio.

Please note that our prepaid pouches and labels are only free of charge when the metal value is at least £250. If the parcel value is below that, the value needed to make £250 will be deducted from the price of your credit note.

Within two working days of your parcel’s arrival, our skilled team will assess your metals and email you a credit note in exchange for them.

If your metal is not hallmarked, we will send you an email advising that it may need to be sent to our workshop for x-ray testing so that it can be accurately valued before your credit note is determined. This process can take an additional 7-10 working days.

Please note that the final price of your credit note may increase or decrease from the online calculator’s estimation. This is because the value of individual metals fluctuates daily. As such, the value of your metal will be fixed according to the market on the day it is received at our studio.

Once your note is safely in your inbox, spend it towards any piece of your choosing, knowing that your kind action has helped to keep our recycled jewellery up and running!

Can I recycle jewellery containing gemstones?

Yes we can do. If you’d like the stones unset and returned, we charge £15 per piece of jewellery (+ P&P). We will also buy stones as part of the recycling process - if they are of a quality we are able to reuse, we can make you an offer once they have been unset and examined.

Do you give credit for gemstones or can I get them returned?

We are able to unset the stones for you and charge £15 per item of jewellery. This can be taken from the credit that you are owed and the stones can be returned to you once unset (with a charge for postages) or when we send your credit note.

Alternatively, once we have inspected and tested the stones to see what they are and what their quality is like, we may offer to buy them from you as part of our recycled antique stones collection or we can return them.

I don't know what my jewellery is made of, how can I find out?

Most precious metals will have a stamp or hallmark. These stamps can help you identify what your jewellery is made of. You can read our guide here.

What if my jewellery doesn’t have a hallmark?

No problem! Our skilled staff can assess it and, should it be needed, have it x-ray tested for you. It can take an additional 7 working days, which we will email you to inform you off.

My unworn jewellery has sentimental value, is there a way of reusing it?

We would recommend using our remodelling service if the precious metal is sentimental.

How will I get my LYLIE credit?

Once we’ve received your jewellery, and our skilled staff have analysed the metals, we will issue you a gift card to use on any purchase at

How quickly will you issue my LYLIE credit?

If your jewellery is hallmarked, we can issue your credit within 2 working days of your jewellery arriving with us. However, if the jewellery is not hallmarked and requires testing, it may take up to 7 working days.

What can I spend my LYLIE credit on?

You can use your credit to purchase any jewellery of equal or greater value on
