At LYLIE’s, all our sustainable engagement rings - be they gold or silver ring jewellery, or lab grown diamond rings - can be engraved with a hidden message, number, or symbol of your choosing, which only you and your partner know to be there.
As inspiration, we’ve gathered our most loved inscription ideas from previously designed engraved rings for women. However, the choice is ultimately yours: whether you prefer a classic inscription, a private symbol, or a playful note, the engraving should feel unique to your relationship.
A Special Date
Inscribing a special date such as that of your proposal, wedding, or even the first day you met, is a classic choice for an engagement ring and one you simply can’t go wrong with.
Depending on your preferred style, dates can be written in any of the three following formats:
22.11.22
22nd November 2022
22.11.2022
Because dates are concise, they also leave room for a second, small inscription, such as initials or a short phrase.
Important Initials or Names
Engraving your and your partners names or initials is the perfect way to commemorate the start of a long, loving and happy married life together. Choose from three possible engraving styles depending on whether you prefer initials or full names.
C + W
CM & WM
Catherine & William
A Memorable Place
Relationships often have a place that feels sacred - whether it is the spot where you first said ‘I love you’, the location of your first date, or the city where the proposal took place, engraving a memorable place into your ring is a unique, novel way to celebrate your commitment to one another.
For a subtler alternative, consider engraving the coordinates of your chosen location instead:
51.5608 N, 0.1629 W
A Meaningful Memoir
Every couple has something unique which serves as a memoir to their relationship. Perhaps it’s a lucky number or word which you share together, or a symbol which recalls a meaningful moment you spent together.
For example, a couple who met when one was selling raffle tickets might choose to engrave a tiny ticket motif as a reminder of where and when their relationship began.
A Split Phrase
Bind one of our engagement rings for women and one of our engagement rings for men, by inscribing a phrase which is ‘split’ across the two rings. Together, the rings complete one another - a reminder of the strong bond you share with your other half.
Short phrases like “Forever” / “Yours” or “To the moon” / “And back.” work particularly well when split apart for they hold sentimental meaning both together and apart. Some couples also choose to engrave one half of a favourite lyric or line of poetry, which is only when both rings are placed side by side.
Posy Rings
In the 15th century, posy rings (named from the French poésie, meaning “poem”) were engraved with sentimental messages, often written in French - the universal language of love. These small inscriptions were tokens of affection, and many phrases remain timeless choices for engagement rings today. Some of our favourites include:
MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU
WEAR THIS FOR ME
NONE SO GOOD
YOU HAVE MY HEART
IT IS MY WISH
FORTUNE WISHES IT
MY LOVE IS UNDIVIDED, / FOR YOU EXCLUSIVELY
FOR LOVE THOU WAST MADE AND / FOR LOVE I WERE THE
Keeper Rings
First worn in the 18th century to hold wedding rings for women securely in place, ‘keeper’ or ‘guard’ rings were often engraved with powerful vows of commitment. Amongst our most loved examples are:
MY LOVE IS UNDIVIDED, FOR YOU EXCLUSIVELY
A PLEDGE OF MY LOVE
YOURS ALONE
SWEET SUPPORTER OF MY LIFE
Romantic Lyrics
For music loving couples, few things are as moving as a memorable lyric from a meaningful song - perhaps the one which will be played during your first dance, or from an artist you both adore.
As inspiration, lyrics such as “All of me loves all of you” (John Legend) or “At last, my love has come along” (Etta James) are both short enough to engrave, yet long enough to recall a melody you both cherish.
